3D Glasses - 3D Specs - 3D Spex
If you cover an eye, you will discover that you no longer have your depth of field vision. This is a product of stereo vision. With just one eye you are no longer able to descern disatances accurately. 3D glassses play with this simple principal. When you view a red/ble image (where each colour is separated by a small distance) while wearing 3D glasses, each eye sees a slightly different image. The red lens filters out the red in the images and the blue filters out the blue, so each eye is only seeing the opposite colour. These images are blended together by the brain, which produces the 3-dimensional effect.
There are many different types of 3D glasses. The most common 3D glasses (the ones with red and cyan lenses) produce a 3-dimensional effect through a process known as anaglyph color filtering. There are various other types of 3D glasses, but they all work in the same manner; by tricking the brain into seeing a 3-dimensional image from a 2-dimensional source.
Anaglyph images were invented in the 1853 by Wilhelm Rollmann.. The lenses in anaglyph 3D glasses were typically red and green until the 1970s, when manufacturers began using red and cyan lenses.
