Goldfish
1. Goldfish have been artificially evolved (through artificial selection by select breeding) from the common carp over a thousand of years of Human intervention. It is still a carp however, and also related to the minnow. But because of breeding through several centuries, primarily in China and Japan, many of the goldfish types seen in aquariums today look nothing like the ancestral carp. Here are just some of the many many artificial breeds of goldfish. - Common, Comet, Black Moor, Bubble Eye, Celestial Eye, Fantail, Ranchu, Panda Moor, Telescope Eye, Pompom, Veil Tail, Ryukin, Shubunkin - Pearl Scale, Oranda and Lionhead.
2. Goldfish can't close their eyes - This makes sleeping a littel different for them. Instead of closing their eyes and falling into a deep sleep, they sleep with their eyes open usually at the bottom.

7. Their size depends on their environment. If you limit the size of their artificial envoroment, they will not grow as big.
8. Goldfish are cold-blooded, so their rate of metabolism depends on water temperature. Do not feed below 50 degrees They can live in near freezing waterand will slow down their metabolism until they are dormant. When the water warms up again so does their metabolism and subsequently their activity.
